Little green army-man syndromeAddendum: I recommend reading the comments, which represent a wide variety of viewpoints and interesting thoughts. I may not agree with all of them, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth airing or hearing.
To date I generally have refrained from commenting on pony episodes, but I'm making an exception for "Wonderbolts Academy". This isn't a review, exactly, nor is it an overview, exactly—but it does contain elements of both.
Along with a couple of local friends I was mildly disappointed by the story, for reasons summed up in this post's title. That phrase is my private nickname for the funhouse-mirror treatment of military organizations by civilian scriptwriters who have little or no knowledge or understanding of how and why they work. Instead those authors create caricatures that would not look out of place on a playground littered with small plastic molded toy soldiers. It is so pervasive in the entertainment industry as to be endlessly grating, especially to one whose fathe

Chapter 1 'Unexpected Encounter"
by Kendell2 and Raikou Artist
"Well, it's nice to be back in Canterlot; so much has changed!" Twilight said as she continued walking, excitement in her voice. Sure, she'd been here a few times since she'd moved to Ponyville, but this was really the first time she'd been there just to relax and reconnect with her roots, as opposed to a party or being called to save the world from an ancient evil that escaped its prison. She remembered Rarity's friendship report after Twilight's birthday; don't be ashamed of your roots. That's what had compelled her to come do a little reconnecting with where she'd come from. "Isn't that right, Spike Spike?" she asked, looking back at her assistant to see him falling quite far behind.
Spike panted, struggling to keep up. "Yeah, Twilight," he panted, stopping to catch his breath. "Can I... Can I please ride on your back?" he asked, unable to keep up with the excited Unicorn mare. "I know you're excited, but I can onl
CorruptionShe could barely make out what was in front of her. Her breathing was difficult, with every intake of air almost painful to bear. But she couldn't give up now. Not after all this. After everypony had placed their hopes on her. It was her duty to do this. She couldn't allow anypony to see her like this.
Twilight Sparkle struggled to walk forward. Her legs were wobbling with every step she took. The darkness didn't help. Ever since she and Spike had failed to find the crystal heart, a shadow had consumed the entire interior of the castle. When that happened, she and Spike had been separated. She had no idea if he was ten feet away, twenty, or even if they were in the same room at this point. Every attempt to call out to him had been met with silence. She worried for him, as any friend would. But that was just one of many serious worries she had right now.
A thud. She nursed her side as she felt around and realised she'd walked into a wall. She silently cursed her present condi
My Date With FluttershyThrough a series of complicated events that requires too much effort--er, I mean brainpower to explain, humans discovered a portal that let them enter the land of Equestria.
Even with advancements in pony technology, brainpower, and magic, most humans wanted to goof off with their new knowledge. What follows the first of six audio transcripts, used by the President of America and Princess Celestia as an excuse to stop interspecies relationships. Some people never learn.
Chris: Wow, this restaurant is amazing. How you'd find out about this place?
Fluttershy: Rariry told me about it. She said how wonderful the piano players were and the candlelight.
Chris: Um, this is our first date and it's already a candlelit dinner? This is the first time we've met outside the Internet. And these candles aren't even lit. Theyre--
A staff of unicorns light every candle inside the place with their magic.
Chris: Just there...
Fluttershy: I'm sorry, I didn't know--
Chris: It's alright. They usually put as
Rainbow Dash Character ReviewBold, brave, daring and tenacious...these are words that one would usually associate with Rainbow Dash in "Friendship is Magic". But how about adorable, innocent and, at times, insecure? Rainbow Dash may be the sporty member of the group and the most tomboyish female within the mane cast, but this does not detract from the fact that, like every other pony, she has a multi-layered personality that allows her to express all sorts of emotions, both positive and negative. Some are naturally the sort of temperaments that one would normally match Rainbow Dash with, but it would be a great injustice to merely suggest that Rainbow Dash is concerned with competitions and little else.
Of course, there are competitive elements in her personality. It is revealed early into the series that she and Applejack, although good friends, are also rivals. In "Fall Weather Friends" this is evidenced well, wherein Rainbow Dash and Applejack face off against one another during the Running of the Leaves, but t
Miss Princess: An MLP:FIM Short Story"Could you tell me a story, Miss Princess?"
Celestia blinked, looking back at the young purple filly standing in the doorway.
"Twilight! What are you doing out of bed?" Celestia asked, gazing at the small unicorn with a frown.
A grey royal guard gave a small cough, and motioned to the filly. "She said that she could not fall asleep, Your Highness. She would like you to tell her a 'bedtime story.'"
The small unicorn smiled, her eyes sparkling. "PLEEEAAAAASE Miss Princess? My Mommy always tells me stories before bedtime. She says it helps me to have good dreams."
Celestia stared at the young filly, whose coat suddenly changed into a purplish-blue, and mane to a light cyan. She sprouted tiny wings, and donned royal jewelry.
"Tia, could you consider telling me a tale tonight?" the Alicorn asked, her sweet smile seeming to warm the room.
"Sister, I am frightfully busy at the moment..." a white Alicorn sporting a pink mane sighed, using her magic to levitate a small purple quill and importan
EHL Part IX - Wingin' It
Equestria Hockey League Part IX Wingin' It
The following day after the Ponyville Golden Leafs' tension-packed, fight-filled victory over the Fillydelphia Flyers, Twilight Sparkle had administrative duties to perform. Earlier that morning, the other Golden Leafs stopped by to donate their share of the team's 10,000 bit fine to the EHL. Applejack offered to pay more than her share for she was still feeling guilty about receiving a suspension and putting the team in a tough spot. Twilight sent the fine payment along with a message asking if Spike could substitute for Applejack in the Golden Leafs' lineup for their next game at Cloudsdale.
Twilight nervously paced inside the treehouse, waiting for the EHL's response. Spike was casually lounging in a chair near the fireplace, reading a superhero comic. Twilight periodically looked over at Spike to see if he had belched a new message. Feeling small vibrations from Twilight's pacing, Spike peered up over his co

Into The Forest Part 1
"Well, here we are," said Applebloom, looking up at the entrance to the Everfree Forest, looking more than a little nervous. The three had stopped by their clubhouse and now wore their Cutie Mark Crusader capes proudly.
"I'm still not so sure about this " Sweetie Belle stated, looking into the deep forest with a shiver, ears pinned back as the memory of the Cockatrice encounter came full front to her mind. "What if we run into the Cockatrice?"
"We'll just say Fluttershy is with us, that'll scare it off," said Scootaloo giving a smirk. The other two couldn't help giving a chuckle about that. "Come on, we'll be fine! Twilight goes to Zecora's all the time, hay, Zecora lives in the Everfree Forest and gets along just fine," she added, looking to the others. "Besides, remember what Granny Smith said during Family Appreciation Day? Zap Apples were from the Everfree Forest, and so are a lot of the things Zecora makes her potions with, who knows what else co

A set of double doors slammed open, casting only a glimpse of light into the pitch black room. A man, skinny and frail, was shoved through the light, falling onto his chest in the darkness. He quickly sat up, looking back in time to see the last trace of fluorescent light disappear as the doors closed.
"Do you know why you are here, Mr. Bowing?" A deep voice boomed through the room's darkness; the man's body began to shiver, unsure where the menacing voice came from.
"Uh, I'm, uh, not sure sir," the man stuttered.
"According to my files, you are one of the men in charge of maintaining cast and crew of our television department, is that correct?"
The man simply nodded and, upon realizing that the pitch black room made it impossible to see, responded vocally, "Uh, y-yes sir."
"And tell me Mr. Bowing, what show's cast do you exactly care for?"
"Uh, M-My Little Pony: F-Friendship is Magic, sir."
There was a loud

Her CatalystAs she walks through the maelstrom, the words trace upon the tips of her fingers and press into the stone. Every brick, every crack in the concrete, every crossed and angular stroke in reds and blacks and oranges. The drips of the gasoline pool around the base of her boots, slosh as she steps over the burst pipes and the rubble.
So much rubble. So little outcry. The silence of the city grates on her eardrums and the mantras she'd been forced to memorize. The Seers demanded they observe thirteen years of recitation before they attempt to weave their first World together.
But who other than the Seers can claim the incantations that knot the skeins they twist and pull on like reins hold fast? When have any of the Sisters recorded the visions they traced upon space-time and recited them, left them open for critique and discussion and debate?
Which is why she walks through the chalky soot of the smashed city around her. This all
