Chapter-title road signs II

The third and last section of Anasazi’s Road will be a novella titled Anasazi’s Angel. A consistent artistic conceit of the book is that each short story or novella chapter is named for a standard U.S. road sign. Facing the opening page of the story or chapter will be an illustration featuring a character prominent in that part of the narrative and the road sign for which it is named.

The sign artwork was created in Adobe Illustrator using the Federal Highway Administration’s official specifications, then exported to Adobe Photoshop for additional work to make them look more like real objects. All are to scale and range from thirty-inch squares (for Y Intersection, Soft Shoulder, Lane Ends Merge Left, and Winding Road) to thirty-six-inch squares (for Added Lane, Street Closed Ahead, and Speed Reduction). Multiple sizes, with individual measurements for each, are approved for all the signs, and there are guidelines for choosing the best size to match a given set of conditions.
